Every month

Every month I'll post a new "taste" of Art Pepper's music as a FREE DOWNLOAD. These tastes are given away because they are "unreleasable" by virtue of the recording being cut off at beginning or end or by brief audio problems that occurred in the recording process.

THEY'RE TOO STUNNING TO HIDE AWAY IN MY FILES AS YOU'LL SOON SEE.

I'll also post occasional journal entries including updates on new releases.

MARCH FREEBIE: in the studio with DONNA LEE

Go back through time and space and enter the studio at Kendun Recorders in Los Angeles in May of 1979. Introducing a new kind of Freebie: SECRET OUTTAKES. I've acquired some uncut, unissued tracks of music recorded for the Artists House album, and this incomplete track was recorded in L.A. by producer John Snyder (he's the white guy in the photo holding the camera). The band could not be more wonderful: George Cables, piano, Charlie Haden, bass, Billy Higgins, Drums, and of course Art Pepper.  I LOVE LOVE LOVE the talk at the end of the track, because it takes me back to that exciting time, when Art Pepper was well into his big comeback and playing so well with such wonderful artists! Join me and them in the studio for eight delightful minutes!

I love my work, because it's Art
And if you're a fan, you'll play YOUR part
The song is free
But the work takes time
The music's sublime
But the effort is mine...
to research and fix it
and present it & mix it.
The next release
is bound to please,
but the choosing the writing, compiling, and layout
the shipping. receiving, the clearing and payout
for mastering, printing, manufacturing and so on
are all up to me, and I promise to go on
posting, releasing, and loving to do it.
as you, the fans, support me all through it.
Thanks.

But if you've been downloading these tracks for free for a while, feel GUILTY. And donate. I promise, you'll feel so much better if you do.
