Every month

Every month I'll post a new "taste" of Art Pepper's music as a FREE DOWNLOAD. These tastes are given away because they are "unreleasable" by virtue of the recording being cut off at beginning or end or by brief audio problems that occurred in the recording process.

THEY'RE TOO STUNNING TO HIDE AWAY IN MY FILES AS YOU'LL SOON SEE.

I'll also post occasional journal entries including updates on new releases.

MUSIC: Pretty and Funky (partial) Taste Because it's (almost) Spring

Some of you may remember the stellar "Red Car" I posted a while back.  It was unprofessionally recorded live at a club in Seattle called Parnell's in 1981.  Due to popular demand, that Red Car may be available at a dealership near you as a vinyl single soon.  This "Patricia" is from the same gig on the same night (Ohhhh, what a great night) and starts midway through Milcho's solo.  Not to worry though.  The opening is on another tape and the two pieces will be reunited on the flip side of said vinyl single.
Band is Art Pepper, Milcho Leviev, David Williams, Carl Burnett.

P.S. Sorry about the audio bleedthrough. That'll be fixed for the release.
P.P.S. Meanwhile, the June CD release looks as if it'll be a super concert with George Cables, David Williams, Carl Burnett. I think.

  1. Laurie, thanks so much for releasing this and the other tracks too. How many songs in total do you have from this gig? Could they be released as an album? Red Car was astonishing.

Also, a request: If you couldn't release it as an album, how about releasing as much of it as possible for download? FLAC would be appreciated.

    Keep the great stuff coming!

    1. Thanks for the response. I'll keep up with the fans re the Parnell's material. It might be an idea to release it all, properly remastered, as FLAC or even on CD, but right now I have a commitment to someone to provide this stuff for a vinyl single and I can't release it for a year after they do. Of course I'll let you know what I'm going to release in June as soon as I know.

  3. Laurie, I keep buying your releases and I look forward to these previews. This time I can't load the preview into my iTunes. I like it better when I can take the preview with me for frequent rotation.
    Thanks.

    1. Let me figure out whether I can release it for download. I'm hesitant to do that when I want to do a REAL release a little later... On the other hand, an incomplete mp3 with all the audio problems, maybe I could do it... Like I said, let me think about it.

  4. Laurie, thanks for this. though fragmented there is real satisfaction in the listen. I look forward to the the full deal.
I heard Art mention Stanley Cowell. He has been a favorite of mine for many a moon. Did Art ever play with Stanley Cowell? Cowell seems to have spent much of his time in Japan and Europe as many of his recordings are imports, that I have at least. What a dream to have heard Art and Stanley Cowell together.

  6. This will not be released as a cd, because it is a fragment, but I may make it available for download. That's the plan. See the next post on this blog, the Body and Soul post...
